The Calcutta High Court says that the ration scheme run by the West Bengal government is against the National Food Security Act.

 Mamata Banerjee, High court declares 'Duare Ration' scheme illegal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered a major setback from the Calcutta High Court. The court has declared the state government,s ‘Duare Ration’ scheme illegal. The court says that this scheme of the west Bengal government is against the National Food Security Act.

Actually the ‘Duare Ration’ scheme was started by the Government of west Bengal, under which ration material was to be made available at the doorstep of the beneficiaries.

160 crores were to be spent on the scheme: While launching this scheme, Mamata government had said that the government would spend Rs 160 crore on this scheme. It will provide financial assistance of one lakh rupees each to about 21,000 ration dealers for the purchase of vehicles for the provision of providing ration to the people. The government’s target was to benefit 10 crore people through the scheme. The government said that 42 thousand jobs would be created with this.
